Site Architecture

CSM network connections are typically done in the control or PLC room using standard PROFIBUS connectors per network interface to be monitored. The CSM system can accommodate up to four PROFIBUS segments per device. The dedicated CSM hardware device is a closed, rugged system that has been developed specifically for the CSM application.
Each network interface on the CSM device can monitor a single segment and/or network. For most installations where a single interface is used to monitor an entire segment, the network connection should be made as close to the master as possible. The monitoring of individual segments may be desirable, especially where physical line analysis is important in the case where Siemens Diagnostic Repeat ers are used. Figure 1 below depicts the most common type of connection. Figure 2 shows other multiple connection possibilities and Figure 3 indicates the connection with a repeater or Siemens Diagnostic Repeater.
