Operational Information and Review

The CSM Control Centre connects via OPC to IDX to display all the network/station statistics for one or multiple monitored sources. The main console, shown below, provides a workspace where multiple connections can be made and a tree view of all connected monitored instances to provide a quick overview of the health of all the monitored networks.
By selecting a particular network, a general network view with the overall network status is presented, as shown above. The tree of detected devices is dynamically updated, that is, if a new device is added to the network or is removed, the monitored view/stats will be updated on the fly. Device statistics can be viewed per device, shown below.
CSM supports the decoding of extended module and channel diagnostics as per PROFIBUS protocol specifications. In addition, CSM is able to decode device-specific diagnostic information for particular devices. This device support can be added as requested. The Siemens Diagnostic repeater is such a device. Using CSM, this allows the extended fault information returned by the repeater to be quickly interpreted and displayed, which can greatly aid when troubleshooting physical network faults, especially their locations on the cable (see below)
Most importantly, all collected statistics or selected tags can be logged into a text file, SQL database or an existing historian. This makes the tool especially useful for reviewing and understanding what occurred prior to a fault situation. This data can be recalled using the real-time/history graphing tool from any of these sources or the tools supplied with 3rd party historians. This part of the tool that is most valuable in analysing situations where a network or plant stops working or works intermittently.
Alarms and events can also be configured in the IDX Alerter Module to send alert emails or SMSs to pre-defined receiptients on a per-statistic/tag basis. These alerts/alarms are all stored in the IDX SQL database and can be viewed and managed inside IDX CSM.
